Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep524: Friday the 40th Part 4: Get Off My Campground!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Lee Shoquist of ChicagoFilm.com bid a fond farewell to the Friday the 13th franchise with a look at 1984's The Final Chapter! It's too bad Jason Voorhees never recovered from his showdown with a pre-teen Corey Feldman. Who knows to what heights this series might have gone?

All kidding aside, the guys slice and dice their way through this faux swan song for Jason Voorhees with more theories, timeline rationalizations, and a preview of their debate over one of the series' most beloved entries!

Also, Ian invites you to check out Sujewa Ekanayake's new website, nycfantastic.com, where he's just posted a video interview with Rachel Sciacca, star of Amir Motlagh's slow-cinema marvel, Man!*
