Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep513: BLOOD Thinner

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast dies and comes back to life as a more badass, cybernetically enhanced version of itself! Yes, we're talking Bloodshot with David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews!

Vin Diesel stars as a soldier whose newfound abilities are exploited by a sneaky scientist (is there any other kind in the movies?). This big-screen version of the early-nineties Valiant comic book series is a throwback to gaudier, dumber times--but how does it measure up in an era of more sophisticated funnybook adaptations?

Also, the guys talk about the weirdness of postponements, cancellations, and quarantines in what is sure to be a monumental time capsule episode!

Episode 513 is fresh out of toilet paper!
