Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast takes a long, hard look at The Invisible Man with David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews! Writer/director Leigh Whannell's* sharp take on the sci-fi classic shifts the focus to Cecilia, the ex-lover of a brilliant but controlling and abusive scientist who has found a way to make himself disappear.
The creator of Saw, Insidious, and Upgrade continues ripping up the baseboards of long-standing genre traditions to provide audiences with a new way of appreciating familiar stories--while offering a timely but not ham-handed metaphor about caustic gender dynamics. This isn't a flawless execution, and the guys have some fun pointing out some of the film's stranger choices.
Also, Ian interviews Beasts of the Southern Wild director Benh Zeitlin about his latest film, Wendy!
Episode 509 will see its way out!
*Check out Episode 318 to hear Ian's 2018 interview with Whannell (as well as an Upgrade review with David)!
