Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep412: Late Screening: The REAL King of the Monsters!

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast and Cole Rush of ColeTries.com and The Quill to Live return with another installment of "Late Screening"! In the 40 years since Alien's release, Cole has somehow managed to avoid all the face-hugging, airlock-blowing excitement (yet he saw Prometheus;* go figure).

In this spoilerific, trivia-packed conversation, the guys talk about what makes Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror masterpiece so endearing and enduring, and why it succeeds where many of its imitators and sequels failed.

Also, Ian has controversial thoughts on a controversial issue, as portrayed in Saint Frances, which took home the Audience Award at this year's Chicago Critics Film Festial.

Episode 412 can hear you scream!
