Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep417: BEING FRANK with Jim Gaffigan and Miranda Bailey!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast aims for the head and the heart with Being Frank! Ian recently participated in round table interviews with comedy superstar Jim Gaffigan and actor/writer/producer-turned-feature director Miranda Bailey! Joining him on the mic are Pat “The Über Critic” McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com and Clint Worthington of Consequence of Sound and The Spool for an inside look at the making of a comedy about a teenage boy who discovers that his father is actually the (ostensible) head of two households.

And to see Leo Brady and Linda Lerner's video interviews from that same press day, check out A Movie Guy.com!

Also, Ian talks about some more awesome events that will close out Cinepocalypse 2019 and a special Friday screening of Echo in the Canyon with Jakob Dylan in attendance--both at the Music Box!

Episode 417 is a great dad!
