Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep408: Scuola Argento: Remedial Musicology

Following the longest semseter break in recorded history, The Kicking the Seat Podcast resumes its "Scuola Argento" series! Aaron Christensen of Horror 101 with Dr. A.C. sits down with Ian to discuss the theatricality and mediocrity of 1980's Inferno, the middle entry in Dario Argento's "Three Mothers" Trilogy. It's a real roller coaster, as the guys marvel at one of horror's most ambitious opening scenes, and then struggle to stay awake during an interminable number of walk-and-stalk set pieces.

Also, Ian shares info on Varèse Sarabande's new limited edition double-LP of the Gremlins 2 soundtrack and points readers to Kicking the Seat's spiffy new "About" page!

Episode 408 doesn't know who that girl with the cat is, either!
