Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep395: Page2Screen2Screen: Ayuh!

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast and The Quill to Live's Cole Rush unearth the secrets of Pet Sematary with a special two-part edition of "Page2Screen"! First up, the guys compare Stephen King's 1983 smash-hit horror novel to Mary Lambert's 1989 film.

The movie terrified Ian as a child, but watching it as an adult yielded decidedly different results. This was Cole's first experience with King on the page or the screen, and it's a testament to the author's masterful prose that Cole didn't give up after one lousy adaptation (for more on Cole's thoughts about being a first-time King reader, check out his latest essay at The Quill to Live).

Join us again on Friday as the guys dive into Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer's new film, and discuss how it stacks up against the book and the 1989 movie!

Episode 395 always comes home to ya!
