Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep470: The Overlooked Novel

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast straps in for a new Shining-themed amusement park ride called Doctor Sleep! Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews join Ian in the front car of a movie so loosely adapted from its source material it makes Ready Player One look like Sleepers!

Yes, in this unofficial "Page2Screen" episode, EMan and David help Ian see the good in Mike Flanagan's loud, cheap-scares-heavy knock off of a Stanley Kubrick classic--while Ian paints a picture of Stephen King's novel that sounds far smarter and more appetizing than Warner Bros' latest cash-grab ('cause it is).

There are spoilers ahead (for both the book and the movie), so do your homework before coming to play with us!

Episode 470 would like to report a "redrum"!
