Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep375: In Case of Emergency, Break GLASS

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie throw M. Night Shyamalan back into Movie Jail, with their unpolished look at Glass! The conclusion to the writer/director's not-so-secret superhero trilogy is a parade of his worst tendencies, and the guys talk about the bizarre downward trajectory from Unbreakable to Split to this latest anvil of unpleasantness.

As a bonus, Harry Egbo and Emmanuel Noisette drop by for some quick takes!

Also, Ian talks about the Tivoli Theatre's upcoming "An Evening Jawing with Richard Dreyfuss". On Thursday, January 31st, fans can meet the Academy Award-winning actor and participate in a Q&A ahead of a special screening of Steven Spielberg's Jaws!

Episode 375 is quite the happening!
