Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep337: Poohzzle

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie return with a look at Marc Forster's family-friendly (?) mid-life-crisis fantasy, Christopher Robin! Disney's latest live-action update of a beloved animation is an off-kilter drama about finding one's way out of the adult wilderness and reconnecting with childhood whimsy--aided, of course, by some magical stuffed animals.

Also, Ian shares a brief interview with filmmaker Marc Turtletaub, whose new movie, Puzzle, opens in Chicago today. The movie stars Kelly Macdonald as a beleaguered homemaker who befriends a jigsaw puzzle champion and re-discovers her own worth in the process.

Plus, learn how you can help make Dustin Wade Mills' horror comedy Slaughterhouse Slumber Party a reality, and listen out for new episodes of the 90 Under 90 Podcast, in which Ian discusses films by Alfred Hitchcock and Kevin Smith with Jeremy and Dan Eden!

Episode 337 won't grow up!
