Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep331: Dark Knight of the Solstice: Hi, David!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and HollywoodChicago.com's Pat “The Über Critic” return to Gotham City for a look at The Dark Knight, which is officially ten years young! Christopher Nolan's Oscar-nominated global phenomenon helped change comic-book movies forever, and the guys dig into what works and doesn't work a decade later.

Also, Pat talks about a special screening of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine taking place next Monday, July 23rd, at Downers Grove's historic (and historically beautiful) Tivoli Theatre--presented by the After Hours Film Society! He'll be hosting, meaning a great time is guaranteed!

Episode 331 deserves a better class of criminal!
