Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep324: Bizarre Exploits

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel enter the mouth of madness with a preview of Cinepocalypse! The sci-fi/horror/cult/crazy film festival will demolish the Music Box Theatre starting tomorrow,* and the guys look at three films that underscore just how hard it is to categorize this week-long experience.

Between the Indonesian fright flick, Satan's Slaves (which David says is better than Hereditary); the Russian body-swap family film, The Cop Baby; and a local documentary about Bill Murray fandom, Cinepocalypse has something for literally everyone!

Also, the guys talk about some of the festival's anniversary screenings and guests, as well as a few of their most anticipated screenings!

Episode 325 says there's no reason that the end times can't be fun times!

*That's June 21st through June 28th for anyone tuning in later.
