Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep372: Do You Feel Lucky, Skunk?

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Mark Krawczyk of Special Mark Productions sneak in one last tradition for 2018 with a look at Evil Bong 777! Yes, Charles Band's perennial pot production soldiers on, with the titular supernatural smokestress hiding out in Las Vegas with her gang of hell-dodging misfits. If you think the premise is weird, wait 'til you hear about the graphic puppet burlesque show!

Ian and Mark go all in with their honest assessment of elements that actually work in this installment, despite myriad forces conspiring to make it unwatchable. They also talk about what Evil Bong represents in terms of changing attitudes about sexual exploitation, politically incorrect humor, and the role of micro-budget filmmaking in the wide and wonderful movie landscape!

For the record, no drugs were consumed in the crafting of this analysis.

Episode 372 is still illegal in most states!
