Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep363: Late Screening: Bleeding Gums Murphy

The Kicking the Seat Podcast returns from an unexpected hiatus with another edition of "Late Screening"! Today, Ian and Cole Rush of ColeTries.com and The Quill to Live speed through Chicago at 120 miles per hour with a look at The Blues Brothers. John Landis' iconic 1980 comedy is a mad, musical celebration of rebellion and soul, and the guys marvel at John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's unabashed love for weird humor and awe-inspiring property damage.

Also, Ian briefly explains his absence, and talks about Scream Factory's stunning (and not-so-stunning) new Blu-ray releases!

Episode 363 is on another mission from God!
