Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep361: SNATCH'd!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and HollywoodChicago.com's Pat “The Über Critic” McDonald implant themselves on your consciousness with a look at the 1956 and 1978 versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers! What do these sci-fi thrillers about space seeds replacing human beings have to say about the eras in which they were spawned, and why are they still so effective today? Listen in as the guys compare and contrast these top-tier examples of a remake done right!

Also, Ian reminds listeners that it's not too late to join Aaron Christensen's 2018 "Scare-a-Thon", with all proceeds benefiting Resilience! You can follow along with Aaron's October fright-flick marathon on his blog, Horror 101 with Dr. AC!

If you'd like to do some homework before following along, Body Snatchers '56 is now available in a limited edition Blu-ray from Olive Films, and the 1978 film is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Episode 361 screams "You're next!" at anyone who'll listen!
