Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep248: Crazy Good!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast andKeeping it Reel's David Fowlie go a bit nuts for the latest animated Dark Knight adventure, Batman and Harley Quinn! The guys caught a one-night-only Fathom Events screening ahead of the film’s home video debut, and they dive into what makes this incarnation so different from the 90s cartoon from which it sprang.

Also up for discussion is Robin Swicord’s Wakefield, which recently popped up on Blu-ray from Shout! Factory. What does a psychosexual drama of middle-age self-discovery have to do with the scourge of Gotham’s underworld? More than you might think!

Episode 248 takes the long way home from, only to find some bats in its belfry!
