Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep204: The Right to Choose

This week, the Kicking the Seat Podcast goes where everyone has gone before, with a look at Daniel Espinosa's Life. Ian and David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel have very different opinions as to whether or not this Doomed Space Crew flick is an enjoyable homage to films like Alien, Prometheus, and Sunshine--or just a transparently derivative license to print money.

Also, Ian has info on tomorrow night's appearance by Chicago-area band The Telepaths, as well as a note about a hiccup in the podcast's schedule.

If you crave Sean Connery impressions, tirades against Norman Greenbaum, and the truth behind those Venom movie tie-in rumors, fire up Episode 204 and seal the air-lock!
