Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep278: We Could Be Heroes

Not everybody loves a sequel, and today the Kicking the Seat Podcast talks about a the franchise-killers that temporarily took out Batman and Superman! HollywoodChicago.com's Pat “The Über Critic” McDonald joins Ian to look back at Supeman IV: The Quest for Peace and Batman & Robin, along with the more successful films from DC's first era of live-action comic-book blockbusters.

Also, Ian teases an upcoming interview with David Fowlie and the creative forces behind Mercury in Retrograde, and tells you how you can support Toys for Tots tonight while enjoying some great, homegrown Chicago music!

Note: Due to circumstances beyond our control, this episode is going up a day late.

Episode 278 is the chilling sound of ya doom!
