Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep282: Late Screening: Programmed Comedy Robot

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and ColeTries.com make the jump to light speed with a special Star Wars edition of "Late Screening"! No, we're not talking about The Last Jedi (you'll have to come back tomorrow for that chat). At hand is Gareth Edwards' 2016 stand-alone adventure, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As you'll recall, Ian and David Fowlie discussed the movie upon release, but today's conversation fills in the lone gap in Cole's Star Wars education. Was it worth filling in? And how much did the guys actually talk about Rogue One in their weird and winding expedition into all things pop culture?

Also, Cole continues his unhealthy obsession with 2001: A Space Odyssey by describing the experience of reading Arthur C. Clarke's novel recently. Could this page-to-screen comparison be a stargate for a future show? You'll have to listen in and find out!

Episode 282 doesn't like you, either!
