Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep183: [Insert Joke About SILENCE Being Golden]

On our first episode of 2017, Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie joins the Kicking the Seat Podcast to make some noise for Martin Scorsese's Silence! David and Ian saw the film just over a month ago, and can finally reveal their thoughts about this challenging 17th century odyssey starring Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson, and Tadanobu Asano. The guys discuss big themes with bigger spoilers, so be sure to listen in after you've experienced one of 2016's best films.

Also, Ian offers a reminder of the soon-to-close "Catch a Comet" contest, and clues you in on a special screening of Saturday Night Fever, coming up this Wednesday at Classic Cinemas Elk Grove (hosted by friend of the show and all-around awesome entertainer, Pat "The Uber Critic" McDonald)!

Episode 183 rings in the New Year with a film that left us speechless, and which we're finally able to talk about!
