Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep150: Remade in the Shade

This week, David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel returns for a long-overdue look at everyone's favorite film genre: remakes. Yes, we're going out on a limb and applying the "G" word to reboots, re-launches and re-imaginings. But what about re-brands? And how do comic-book adaptations factor into the discussion? Listen in as the guys unravel complicated answers to a deceptively simple question, while also sharing their personal "Top 5 Remakes".*

Also, Ian offers a look at a few of this week's Shout! Factory releases, including the just-reviewed The Last Reef: Cities Beneath the Sea, Wonders of the Arctic, and the 30th anniversary Blu-ray of Transformers: The Movie!

This is a special extended episode celebrating the Kicking the Seat Podcast's 150th installment. Thanks, as always for listening, and spread the word!

*As mentioned on the podcast, Rotten Tomatoes recently published their list of 50 best remakes--a highly dubious pantheon that includes Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
