Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep136: The Pixar Punch

This week, the Kicking the Seat Podcast dives into Disney/Pixar's latest animated wonder, Finding Dory! Ian is joined by a motley crew of film-loving friends, including returning guests David Fowlie of Keeping It Reel and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews, as well as newcomers to the show, Don Shanahan from Every Movie Has a Lesson, and Gabrielle Bondi of The Young Folks.

How does Finding Dory stack up to Finding Nemo? Is it worth the 3D upcharge? And what does the movie have to do with Gilmore Girls? The gang answers these questions and many more in this lively, spoilerific chat--which was recorded moments after an advance screening, in the swankiest, comfiest Burger King chairs they'd ever seen.

Also, Ian talks about some upcoming home video releases from Shout! Factory, and plugs a very special event for a very special cause.

Episode 136 is truly a podcast without "pier"!
