Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep168: Compare & Contrast

Mad Max: Fury Road was the craziest, most creatively ambitious blockbuster of 2015--not at all what you'd expect from the third sequel in a long-dead franchise. Though it didn't set the world box office on fire, George Miller's thrilling post-apocalyptic adventure is being given another stab at greatness with the "Black & Chrome Edition", which hits home video on December 6.*

The film is currently enjoying a limited theatrical run, and Ian and Aaron Christensen of Horror 101 with Dr. A.C. caught up with it last week at Chicago's Music Box Theatre (where you can see it now through Thursday, November 17).

Does the art-house sensibility of this new presentation enhance Fury Road? Or does sucking out the color also suck out the life? Our opinions might surprise you.

Episode 168 is the first of four very different, very compelling shows coming at you this week, so please follow, like, and subscribe to us viaTwitterFacebookiTunes, and Stitcher to keep up with the latest episodes, news, and reviews!
