Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep113: ELECTRIC Company

The KtS Podcast goes retro this week with a look at Mark Hartley's Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films. Ian and Matt had very different reactions to the film, but they agree that it's not quite the style of documentary they're used to watching.

Also, Ian teases his packed viewing/reviewing schedule and offers some muddled musings on the recent surge in dramas inspired by documentaries. Yes, episode 113 goes over the top in its peaceful quest to be master of the podcasting universe (with all the foresight and production value of a Golan-Globus production)!

As always, we invite you to comment, follow, like, subscribe to, and share Kicking the Seat on TwitterFacebookiTunes, and Stitcher!
