Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

April 1st Poll (No Joke)!

You Decide Which Seat Gets Kicked This Weekend

UPDATE: SOURCE CODE WINS!!!

(Not to worry: I have a feeling Insidious is in my near future, too.)

First off, I'd like to apologize for this week's reduced review activity.  I attended a Henry Rollins spoken word event on Wednesday, which threw off both my sleep schedule and my movie-watching schedule. I'm back on track now, though.  By the way, if you have a chance to catch Rollins doing his thing, seize it (and get to the venue early, unless you want to stand for four hours).

Next, I have a dilemma:  I plan to watch two new movies this weekend.  One of them is the animated Easter Bunny romp, Hop (requested by Leslie).  The other is either going to be the sci-fi thriller Source Code, or the creepy-kid horror movie Insidious.

I can't make up my mind, so I'm tossing the decision to you!

Please fill out a Comment Card with your choice of Source Code or Insidious and send it back by 5pm CST tomorrow (4/2).  I'll announce the winner shortly thereafter and check out the movie on Sunday.

As always, thanks, and take care.
