Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Queue Ball!

Announcing Another Review-Queue Marathon, Y'all!

Hey, Gang! I'm getting really burned out on horror movies, and my journey is far from over.

But next week, things will be different. That's right, beginning Monday, I will be diving head-first into the Request Queue and reviewing a slew of films that you've asked me to check out. Look at that lovely image above: not a masked slahser or demonic entity in the bunch (okay, I guess Zodiac qualifies, but that's more of an investigative drama anyway).

In addition to covering these reader-requested gems, I'm going to preface each one with a blurb to let everyone know who's responsible for prescribing my misery/elation. If you have a Web site or blog you'd like to promote, please drop me a line and I'll link to it in the intro*.

As a bonus just for you, my dear readers, I've decided to waive the exhorbitant advertising fees that rocketed Kicking the Seat to the top of Forbes' "1 Million Most Obscure Film Sites" list, and am offering this promotional service for free!

Please join me for November's mixed-genre odyssey, and feel free to send your ideas at any time!

Thanks, as always, and take care.

Ian
