Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

So this is what's called a Lunch-time Poll

Hey, everyone!  I haven't been to the movies in almost two weeks.  The crazy convention schedule and commitments to family and the day-job have kept me from achieving the "One New Movie a Week" policy I established when launching this site.

This past weekend was particularly hard to let go of because there were three big debuts.  I'm planning on catching one of them tomorrow and posting a review on Wednesday or Thursday--and I need your help to decide which film will get my money.

In the spirit of Democracy and Indecision, I'm placing tomorrow's picture squarely in your hands.

Simply send a Comment Card with the letter choice that corresponds with the three titles listed below. I'll tally the votes at about 12:30pm Central tomorrow and send a quick update when I return from the cineplex.

As for Kicking the Seat, I hope to catch up on the seven reviews in my queue, plus the convention scene wrap-up, plus "The Thomas Jane Affair, Part Two" in the next couple of weeks--in addition to drafting interview questions for a handful of celebrities I met in Minnesota.

In the meantime, thank you for your patience, and stay tuned for more movie mania!
