Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

The KtS Contest: Never Forget

Update: This contest has ended, with no entrants and no winner.

Martin Guigui's 9/11 opens in theatres today, nearly sixteen years after the tragic events it dramatizes. The film, starring Charlie Sheen, Whoopi Goldberg, Luis Guzman, and Gina Gershon, centers on a group of strangers trapped in a World Trade Center elevator during the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

It was a day that changed the world forever, in ways that we immediately (and rightly) think of as negative. But 9/11 also brought out the best in people across the world--through charity, activism, art, and a greater awareness of global affairs.

In the spirit of remembering not only that darkest of days but also the lessons we've learned from it, Kicking the Seat has teamed with Tether Group to bring you the "Never Forget" Contest.

The Prize: Kicking the Seat is giving away one (1) 9/11 Movie Prize Pack containing:

  •  9/11 movie poster hand-signed by star Charlie Sheen
